Trifels as an island in the fog
I’d wanted to photograph Trifels Castle as an island in a sea of fog for a long time. Rehberg tower is a great spot for it with a long lens.
The fog just had to be right: not too high, not too low. It took five or six early-morning climbs up the tower before it worked out. I’d do it again.

How to plan it in Celeris
Enable “Predefined 3D models” under Settings → 3D display and let the terrain load.
Find Rehberg tower
Tap the map’s magnifying glass and search for “Rehbergturm”. Place the crosshair on the tower, not on Trifels. Reference position: 49.18168° N, 7.97035° E.
Set a morning
Tap the sun symbol above the date. Use the date controls to choose early November and drag the time band to around 10:00 local time.
Frame the telephoto view
Tap “3D” with the cube icon at the top. Choose landscape with the rectangle icon on the right and pinch to about 240 mm. Drag the sky towards north-northeast, around 20°, and tilt slightly down until Trifels sits in the frame.
Test the fog
Tap the cloud on the right. Start with its slider at 475 m. Use minus and plus beside the second metre value to set visibility to 500 m. Move the fog top until the amount of hillside showing suits your picture.
Save the plan
Save the view with the bookmark. Then compare the fog elevation you need with a weather report outside Celeris.
The preview uses the tower platform’s height. On location, align it through phone aiming → compass indicator → “Align on the terrain”. The fog is a simulation, not a forecast.
